Nestled in Surrey in the Borough of Elmbridge, Cobham is a community steeped in history. In the 19th century it was home to the poet Matthew Arnold and other famous residents have included Mrs Earle who wrote ‘Pot-Pourri From a Surrey Garden’ and other books.
Cobham’s best-known historic house is Church Stile House, a Grade II* Listed Building dating from the early 17th century and standing as its name implies, next to the parish church.
The Cricketers, overlooking the delightful Downside Common, is a stone’s throw away from a variety of landmarks in this pretty village, from Cobham Mill, one of the few working water mills in Surrey, to the glorious Painshill Landscape Gardens and the restored semaphore tower on Chatley Heath.
Along with a variety of local shops and friendly people, there are a multitude of reasons to visit this quaint little countryside town.
